Sunday Service Pattern Update
Dear friends, this coming Sunday we are marking a shift in our service pattern towards an afternoon time that will more closely reflect our situation moving forward from September 2021 when we will move into our temporary home, St Andrew’s Wesley United. At 3:30pm this Sunday, July 11, our final pre-recorded service will be shown in-person at our summer location at Coastal Church Commercial Campus and, in a first for First, streamed online. It is our hope as a pastoral team that you will either join us in-person or get together as a small group and watch this service online with family and friends at this new time.
Then, from Sunday, July 18 and on until September, we will no longer be recording our worship services in advance. Rather, worship: our singing, sermons, Scripture readings and prayers will be live and in person from 3:30pm onwards on Sunday afternoons. To view and participate in the service online, you will be able to click a link that will direct you to our live streaming platform. There you will be able to view the service, request prayer with a pastoral host, interact with other viewers and give financially online, if you wish. If you are unable to attend in person, the decision to live stream provides an accessible way of participating in First Baptist’s services and will be an important part of our ministry moving forward.
In a season of many transitions, this is another shift for us as a church family, with a change on the horizon to another afternoon time and location in September. However, we believe that this is an integral part of uniting together in worship, whether near or far, as we begin a transition to a pattern of afternoon worship services for the next couple of years. There is no denying that it is different and may be uncomfortable but in the end the goal is to worship God together rather than separated by both time and space. If, for whatever reason, you aren’t able to make it to church in person or online, our services will be available on our website in the following weeks and months.
There is a wonderful, joyous and convicting inevitability to regular public worship among the people of God. The psalmist David wrote, “I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord,” and, “I will thank you in the great congregation; in the mighty throng I will praise you.” When we gather together on Sundays we are reminded of who God is and who we are, his saving work in Jesus Christ, and a never ending circle of praise and prayer, confession and revelation to which we bear witness in public worship. From there we go out into our week to love and serve the Lord in our communities and nations.
We are excited to join with you this summer on Sundays at 3:30pm, in person or online, as together we worship our great God and Saviour, who is forming us into a people that will declare His praise.
